Our Mission
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is created in collaboration with emergency management and land management agencies allowing the community to be proactive in managing wildfire risk. The plan consists of an individualized community assessment that identifies values, risks, elements of community protection already in place, and an action plan of measures that can be taken to reduce the threat and impact of wildland fires.
Creating Valdez-Copper River’s Community Wildfire Protection Plans is made possible through Cooperative Agreement Grant money funded though the Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office.
Thank you for your partnership.

Benefits of Establishing a CWPP
CWPP’s involve community planning and collaboration to identify and prioritize areas for treatment and recommend measures to reduce structure ignitability. Once a CWPP is established, it is possible to obtain Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) grants which provide funds to implement the measures outlined in the mitigation and action part of the plan. CWPPs are the basis for hazardous fuels reduction, Firewise projects offer substantial educational opportunities for homeowners and the general public. They empower local emergency resources and encourage the public to be proactive in wildfire prevention and protection.
